King Lear represents
Manawatu Summer Shakespeare's thirteenth consecutive annual production,
during which time we have presented many of Shakespeare's best known,
best loved and most memorable works and the production has grown to
become one of the most eagerly awaited and central in the city's
cultural calendar. The professional dirctors are recruited
through Massey University's Visiting Artist scheme, and housed by
Community Arts Palmerston North in an apartment in the Square Edge Arts
Centre in the city. In the past directors have come from as far afield
as Los Angeles, and productions have won numerous awards for direction,
acting, costume and set design at the local Globe Theatre Awards, with
2011 & 2012's productions being named "Production of the
Year". The directors for each year are listed below, along
with the plays they presented.
